In June we got a plea to help a momma cat and her three kittens. They just showed up one day in someone’s yard. The kittens were only about 8 weeks old. We knew if we were able to rescue them now they could be socialized and have a chance at adoption.
It was a six hour process to rescue the momma who we named Firefly and her three babies. They were not used to humans at all and were very wary of us. Firefly was older and her best option was to be spayed and released but the kittens were young enough to work with. After a few days two out of the three kittens were still scared and avoidant but one was very friendly, curious and affectionate. He was the all white one. We suspected he was deaf as he would remain sleeping when there were noises that woke the other two up. We named him Calypso. He was the most playful and adventurous. He loved being picked up and cuddled too! He even helped his siblings come around and feel more comfortable around humans. We took him to an adoption event where he had some interest but no one adopted him.
We were sad and posted a photo of him being held by his foster mom at the event. He was very snugly and kneading the air. Suddenly there was a lot of interest in this little white kitten. Most people who inquired lived pretty far, but there was one couple who lived in Brooklyn who fell in love with his photo. They submitted their paperwork and we brought him to his new home soon after.
We are happy to say he has already settled in and is a part of the family. He, of course, is an indoor only kitty. He spends his days cuddling with his family, playing with toys and watching True Crime shows with his mom.
