Hugh is great with other dogs and the family’s elder bull, Lucky quickly bonded with him. They have since also adopted another dog, Edison so Hugh has two permanent canine siblings. Hugh also has many foster siblings that come and go. Since Hugh is so good with other dogs he helps them acclimate to their new environment. While he still can be shy with new people and new things, he has found a home where he is not only comfortable but also helps other dogs in need feel comfortable.
Hugh was rescued from a dog meat farm in Asia. He was originally transferred to a local NJ shelter where the behavior team worked with him to get him ready for adoption. Poor Hugh was understandably terrified of everyone and everything. He was adopted out once but quickly returned as Hugh needed more help than the adopters anticipated. He started to get incredibly stressed in the shelter environment so he was transferred to Sarama where he could decompress and continue his training in a foster home. It didn’t take long for his foster parents (Sarama’s Director Laura Miller and her boyfriend Adam) to fall in love and adopt Hugh. He was the perfect dog for them.
